Len Lye, Storm de Hirsch and Stan Brakhage are a few of the many innovators of avant-garde cinema. These filmmakers experimented heavily with various direct filmmaking techniques: scratching, painting, pasting, and collaging onto clear or exposed celluloid. In this workshop participants will have the chance to create their own camera-less film, or cine sin cámara, as well as learn to splice and project 16mm film! In the first hour of the workshop, we will watch a selection of handmade films while discussing the various techniques used. Participants will spend the remainder of the workshop working on their own films. Materials such as paint, India ink, markers, pens, tape, stickers, etc will be provided. The films created will be spliced together and projected at the end of the workshop!
