‍Echo Park Film Center
Dear friends (and inspirations) from LA/Canada!

Many more film-related resources can be found on
‍Ecstatic Static’s resource page. Highly recommend browsing–free PDFs of a lot of film theory/practice/tech books!

‍No Film School
is a great tool for learning more about the various aspects of filmmaking

Basics of Film by Jodie Mack‍
Dear friends (and inspirations) from LA/Canada!

‍No Evil Eye Cinema
is an alternative, satellite film school that launched its first session of classes in 2021. I don’t know if they plan on doing another launch this year, but a great collective to follow.

‍This Week in Experimental
is a newsletter/resource list for artists and filmmakers created by artist Gabby Sumney. A weekly list of programming, essays, grants, residencies, festivals, etc. mostly focused on experimental/non-traditional cinema.

‍Cathode Cinema
Cathode Cinema is just really cool lol. It’s a web-based movie channel curated by a bunch of film nerds from California. Every day has a theme or unifying concept, from the very relatable to the incredibly niche. Recent programming examples: “Absurd Mayhem LIVES! Even More Trash Action Schlock from the Video Bins!”, “PARANOID”, and “EVIL NERDS”. Lol, so yeah, just a great place to watch stuff you won’t encounter on Criterion, Mubi, and so on. This links to their IG, but you can find their website here.

REMEMBER: They’re in CA, which means their listings are 2 hours behind us here in Central Standard Time.

‍Cinesol Film Festival
Cinesol is the longest-running film festival in the RGV, championing independent cinema since 1993. They host two film races every year, one is 24hrs and the other is 36hrs. Filmmakers of all ages and backgrounds compete in these every year, and the winners are screened at the festival!

‍South Texas International Film Festival
STXIFF is the youngest festival in the RGV film scene, and unlike Cinesol which is an independent entity, STXIFF was founded in 2015 by the City of Edinburg.
