TOTALLY F***ED UP:
"Totally F***ed Up" is a 1993 independent film directed by Gregg Araki, which is part of his "Teenage Apocalypse Trilogy" along with "The Doom Generation" and "Nowhere." The film follows a group of six queer teenagers living in Los Angeles as they navigate their lives, relationships, and struggles with societal norms and discrimination.
The story is presented in a fragmented, non-linear narrative style, reflecting the characters' disjointed experiences and emotions. Each character grapples with issues such as coming out, dealing with homophobia, finding love and acceptance, and coping with feelings of alienation and despair.
Throughout the film, Araki employs a raw and unfiltered visual style, using handheld camerawork and naturalistic performances to create an intimate and authentic portrayal of teenage life. The soundtrack, featuring alternative rock and punk music, further enhances the film's rebellious and edgy tone.
"Totally Fucked Up" is a bold and provocative exploration of contemporary youth culture and queer identity, offering a candid and unapologetic depiction of the struggles faced by LGBTQ+ individuals in society. It's a film that challenges conventions and invites viewers to confront uncomfortable truths about acceptance, love, and the search for belonging.
Gregg Araki:

Araki gained prominence in the early 1990s with films like "The Living End" (1992) and "Totally F***ed Up" (1993), which were part of the New Queer Cinema movement. His most well-known work is the "Teen Apocalypse Trilogy," consisting of "Totally F***ed Up," "The Doom Generation" (1995), and "Nowhere" (1997), each starring James Duval in a different role, which depicts the lives of disaffected youth navigating a world filled with violence, drugs, and sexual exploration.
